RISD Museum Soundwalks

Research, interviews, UX design and user testing for RISD Soundwalks mobile application prototype. Promo video for the narrative experience co-created with Carson Evans for the RISD Museum.

RISD Museum Soundwalks provides narrative journeys that enhance the museum experience. The initial proposal to house the soundwalks took the form of a browser-based mobile application that used beacon technology to guide the visitors through the galleries. Research revealed that wayfinding was a key area of focus, as the museum is comprised of multiple buildings—not all accessible by the same elevators. The prototype for the app inludes directions in several forms—written, spoken, and visual, using maps and iconography. In this version, visitors may follow a defined theme tour, or walk through the museum at their leisure and explore audio snippets for works nearby. The app development is currently on hold, but you can listen to the incredible storytelling here. A teaser video (below) promotes the soundwalks.
